
Suspicious causes have been ruled out; the fire's origin remains undetermined
The Yukon Coroner's Service is investigating a devastating fire that swept through the remote Brewer Creek mine camp, located 100 kilometers south of Dawson City, on October 3, claiming the lives of two 20-year-old seasonal workers from British Columbia.
The camp, accessible only by air or boat, was set to shut down on October 4. Five others were medevacked to Dawson City Community Hospital for treatment.
According to a media release Monday, the Yukon Coroner's Service is investigating the incident, supported by the Whitehorse Fire Marshal's Office, Yukon Workers' Safety and Compensation Board, and Dawson City RCMP.
The release says while suspicious causes have been ruled out, the fire's origin remains undetermined. The coroner's office has offered condolences to the families, friends, and coworkers of the deceased.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
