Seniors Action Yukon has asked the three political parties what their position is on the Aging in Place Action Plan, the Putting People First Final Report, and private for-profit facilities for senior citizens.
Seniors Action Yukon found that all parties agreed to support the 56 recommendations in the Aging in Place Action Plan.
When it comes to the Putting People First Final Report, the Liberals and the NDP say the support all the recommendations, while the Yukon Party says they support the goals of the report but they have concerns about some of the recommendations. They say it will require further evaluation in consultation with health care system leaders.
On the issue of private for-profit facilities for senior citizens, the Yukon Party says they support them. The Liberals say they support them where the facilities don’t overlap with government health care mandates. The NDP say they support public, not private, health care, including long-term care facilities. They say it is not appropriate for business to profit from caring for our seniors and Elders.
